Uninterruptible Power Supplies must be properly installed and commissioned in accordance with the relevant manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations in order to ensure a trouble-free working life. Generally standard UPS up to 3kVA with ‘plug and play’ connections will simply plug into a local mains power supply. Above 3kVA UPS tend to be hardwired and require a suitable qualified electrical engineer or electrical contractor to install and provide certification. A certified commissioning engineer is also a prerequisite for a larger UPS installation and may a requirement of associated warranty terms.

Maintenance plans are highly recommended for UPS systems from 5kVA. No matter what the installation, your UPS must be ready to perform at all times, and this can only be truly guaranteed over the full working life of your UPS if it is regularly maintained. Of prime importance is the battery set. This must be in good working order but other consumables also need regular inspection such as fans and over their working life, the DC capacitors within the power circuits. UPS logs also require inspection, to review recorded incidents and alarms, and predict potential future problems.
