1 Phase UPS Systems
The supply coming into an industrial estate, factory, office block or other large building will be a three-phase, 400V 50Hz supply. It is then converted to a single-phase supply by the distribution network within the building so that wall sockets will have a voltage of 230V at 50Hz. This provides a maximum current typically: 10, 13, 16, or 20 Amps.
UPS are designed to work on either a single or three-phase supply, but not both. The difference between them is really to do with how they handle the electricity supply, their switching mechanisms and size of output they are designed to enable.
At Critical Power Projects, we supply a number of desktops, floor standing, or rack-mounted, single phase UPS and single-phase UPS systems up to 3kVA from leading manufacturers across the globe. We employ a team of qualified and experienced UPS experts, fully conversant with the full gamut of requirements of power protection by all sectors of business and industry. We also understand which single-phase UPS will be best for your requirements, and as we are manufacturer-independent, we are free to supply a solution that best meets your needs. If it’s just the product you want, we can ship it to you quickly (from stock or on special order). For additional power security, some single-phase UPS (and those rated above 3kVA) can be hard-wired, in which case we can provide expert installation and project management.
We also provide battery extension packs to increase battery run time, plus bypasses, remote monitoring, power management and power monitoring solutions.
For advice on 1 phase UPS, or if you would like to know more about single phase UPS systems and the range of power protection products and services we supply, or if you would like us to arrange a site survey or quotation, please call: 0808 503 8777, fill in our contacts form or send us an email with your details and we’ll call you.
Single Phase UPS FAQs
What is a single phase UPS system?
Single phase uninterruptible power supplies have one input and one output source to the electrical equipment. Single phase units only require one neutral and one conductor wire to complete the circuit. This type of system covers a user’s requirements of up to 20 kVA, and tends to be used for smaller domestic appliances or equipment that requires less power.
What is the difference between single phase and three phase?
Three phase UPS systems are designed to support appliances with a higher rate of power. As the name suggests, a three phase system uses three separate conductors which offer three sinewaves. Continuous power is supplied to the load. Although more efficient, three phase UPS tend to be suited to larger applications that require a more reliable source of backup power.
Do I need a single phase system?
The UPS system you decide to use will depend on your specific requirements. Because single phase uninterruptible power supplies are associated with equipment with a lower power requirement, it is best to use this type of system for less critical equipment. A three phase system, on the other hand, is suited to larger applications that include critical loads. Data centres and industrial applications as well as the medical industry may benefit from the use of a three phase system.
